Salmson SB 04-15 Circulating Pump and Solar Rated Non-Return Valve Kit
The Salmson SB 04-15 is no longer manufactured. Order this listing and you will be supplied the Wilo Star-Z NOVA, which is the current replacement, together with the non-return valve. This is the same kit as the Wilo Star-Z NOVA valve kit, listed under the original pump name.

Why replace the non-return valve at the same time?
A non-return valve that has aged lets water flow backwards through the system at night, so the tank loses the heat it gained during the day and the pump runs against reverse flow. That shortens the life of a new pump. A standard non-return valve is not suitable — the valve in this kit is rated for the temperatures an open loop solar circuit reaches.
Why you are being offered a different pump
Wilo took over the Salmson circulator range. The SB 04-15, the NSB 04-15 and the Wilo Z 15 A were all superseded by the same pump — the Wilo Star-Z NOVA — and Rheem supply it as spare part number 299997 for exactly this purpose.
It is the same 84 mm port-to-port body with Rp ½ connections, so in most installations it goes straight back in. It draws 3–5 W where the pumps it replaces drew considerably more.
Will this pump fit my system?
Fit is decided by the pump's dimensions and duty, not by the brand on the tank:
- Port-to-port: 84 mm thread to thread, Rp ½ pipe connections with G 1 union nuts. Measure your existing pump face to face — if it is 84 mm, this is a direct replacement.
- Maximum head: 1.0 m. Maximum flow: 0.4 m³/h. This is a low-duty circulator for close-coupled solar and domestic hot water recirculation, not a long-run or high-head pump.
- Open loop and potable water. The housing is brass (CW617N) and Wilo approve it for drinking water, so it suits open loop solar systems where the water from your taps passes through the pump, both flat plate and evacuated tube. If your system circulates glycol in a closed loop, you need a closed-loop circulator such as the Wilo Varios Pico-STG 15/1-7 instead.
- 240V (1~230 V, 50 Hz), 3–5 W running, with thermal insulation shell fitted as standard.
