1800 W is the usual rating for the boost element in a solar hot water tank — low enough that the booster tops the tank up without overriding the solar gain.

Why the 120 rating matters
Watt density is how much heat the element pushes through each square metre of its surface. At 120 kW/m² this element spreads its 1800 W over more surface than a 150 kW/m² equivalent, so the sheath runs cooler, scale forms more slowly, and the element tends to last longer. That is why SolaHart specify the low-density version for solar tanks, where the element sits in water that is already warm.
Fit like for like. Swapping a 120 for a 150 will physically work but shortens element life in hard water.
Fitting notes
- Fit the supplied gasket — never re-use the old one.
- Clean the flange face back to bare metal and clear any calcification.
- Pull the bolts up evenly in a cross pattern. Do not over-tighten.
- If the flange plate is pitted, replace it — we stock the Rheem 204295 flange and seal kit.
