Why Incoloy
Incoloy 800 is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy that resists scaling and corrosion far better than copper. It is the element to fit on hard water, bore water, or anywhere copper elements have been failing early. Rheem specify it for corrosive water.
What watt density means
Watt density is how much heat the element pushes through each square metre of its surface. A 150 kW/m² element is the standard, more compact fit. A 120 kW/m² element spreads the same wattage over more surface, so it runs cooler and scales more slowly — worth considering in hard-water areas if your tank has the room. Match what came out unless you have a reason to change.
Fitting notes
- Fit the supplied gasket — never re-use the old one.
- Clean the flange face back to bare metal and clear any calcification.
- Pull the bolts up evenly in a cross pattern. Do not over-tighten.
- If the flange plate is pitted, replace it — we stock the Rheem 204295 flange and seal kit.
